Sore Eyes

My eyes grow tired of seeing
and sometimes I miss believing in this,
but I best not deceive myself again.

I am a wave, an oscillation,
a series of semi-circles
strung out in space and time.
I live a year of seasons
in a decade and a day.

Come on,
cut through me.
Take my soul and
turn it into science.
Display who I am
in diagram
and cold calculation.
It's what I do to myself.

I hate it for how good it feels
when I know that it's not real.
My dreams keep changing.
My heart keeps getting rearranged
And it makes me feel strange.
It makes me a stranger to my old friends.
It makes me a stranger to myself.

South Bay Hills (maybe complete)

There are few things I love more than to drive through South Bay hills in the early spring. You'll understand when you see it. As I sit in the back seat, I let my mind go where it wants to.

I think of hands tied and shattered walls
and blood I never saw,
how (time and) common struggle (purpose) form(s)
the tightest bonds.
And I wonder that a man can fall
and not really fail,
though I can't tell from (down) here.
But most of all I think of
a woman I want to love and how
the changes I've let happen to my heart
might keep me from her.

There are few things I dislike more than to drive through South Bay hills in the summer, not because it's so unpleasant, but I have seen them in the spring: I know what they can be, what they so recently were and will be again. Just not soon enough. You'll understand when you see it.

Split Vision

I see through two separate eyes,
one for the heart, one for the brain.
And they don't see the same,
no, not this time.
To feel the love
or steel the mind?

I don't know what I'm doing here.

Raving with the cheshire moon,
my legs both move in their own ways
and all my thoughts are blaring out of tune.
A luna loon a lieu na loo

I don't know what I'm doing here.

Buds

I watch wild limbs
conduct the wind
in their song
and we all sing along.
"sheh sheh sheh sheh"

Every person is a wave,
an oscillation,
a series of semi-circles,
a year of seasons in a day, a month a decade.

What a beautiful bird
What a beautiful arrow
and what a narrow path from my hand to its heart (breast).

What full hearted (breasted) bird
What a foolhardy sparrow
(who lets itself be lured by the bread that I left)

Come on, cut through me,
turn my soul into science,
display me in diagram
and cold calculation.
It's what I do to myself.

Let's make this easy
let's just make this right.
Don't want anything to get in the way
of holding you tightly to me.

Let's not let the fires in our minds
beat out the fires in our hearts.
Let's let love burn in our souls every day.

Weakness (unfinished draft)

We have weakness
so we have reason
for each other
and we hold our joy in canyons
carved away by sadness.

We have weakness
so we have reason
for each other.
I'll hold you through the night
and never let you go.
Though others may look on
and call this madness,
We know in our depths that we are right.

Come try to dry your eyes
upon my shoulder.
Your makeup stains my shirt
but I don't mind.
(This senseless mess
keeps you from any answer.)
I search for words to help you see again.

We have weakness
so we have reason
for each other.
He never learned
and you burned through it all.
......
....
.......

Test the irons
and rage against the ribbing;
Our hearts beat strong
against a steadfast will.
.....
....
.....

Time and Distance

The sun sets in my West
as it rises in your East
and you should be the least of my worries.

A promise made, though not on a stone
for the time we'd spend alone,
that when I returned from here
we'd make our home.

You made a choice
(I did not press you)
that I'd be the only man
to ever undress you.

I watch the lights come in,
hear the roar that brings the wind
as I breathe in my new sin for its comfort.

You told me growing old
would never get old
so long as we were doing it together.

You let me believe
we were tied up in a dream.
You ripped apart the seam
and went on your own way.

You've made it so hard to ever feel right.
You've made it so hard to be the same
as I was before you came
back into my life
and told me that you were going to be mine (my wife)

It rises in my East
and sets in your West.
I know you won't rest until day comes.

Rises in the East
sets in the west.
I'm not giving you the rest of my days here!

You were going to be mine.
You were going to be my...

The sun sets in my West
as it rises in your East
and I'm making you the least of my worries.

Colors

I threw some color on my window
just to see what I would see
and with my fingers drew in shapes:
a scenery of trees
and a boy down on his knees
praying to god to give him answers,
his heart has got to know.

Then the light came in.

As brave as any mouse
I went up to the house
to receive my break of bread
and hear a good book read,
and see where my heart was led,
trying hard to put on chains
my mind broke from my legs.

Then the light came in.

Where do I go from here?
I can't live on a mountain top
isolated in an icy shell
insulated in the snow.
Where do I go?
Where do I go from here?

In the church there is a window
that turns light into a rainbow.
Blood that runs from my heart stains
the white world I've tried to make.
Where do I go?
Where do i go from here?

Let the light come in.

Love Song

I want to see your fields
reaching out to me,
each cross valley road
a crease of your open hand.

I need your shaded canyon woodland
with it's river and its damn
where the running water swells
to give birds room to sail.

I know that we just met
but I could not forget you
since you let me call you home.
And when my time is through
I will return to you
my home (love).

I miss all the places where
your people would meet:
your steeples and your streets,
your red brick city stores.

And I want so much more:
my whole life spent with you.
I'll watch you from my open door
and feel my seasons pass with yours.

Jessie

Jessie gave up his heart
and he won't take it back.
He left it tied down to the train track.

Jessie was a brave soul
but he lost himself at sea.
Now that's where he'll always be,
down in cold depths under sea.

an idea, a start

I threw some colors on my window
just to see what I would see.
and painted with my finger
a scenery of trees
and a man down on his knees
saying to God please give me answers,
I swear I want to know.

Then the light came in.

Iraqi Sunset

You say you'll give a prayer for me;
I don't even know your name.
I promise I'll go carefully
if you swear to do the same.

So many things I could have been
but this is what I am:
A soldier trained to fight and kill
even though I never will.

Keeping these bruises in my shoulders
helps me forget the songs I've sung.
And it's strange to see how I'm getting older
when my heart still believes
I'll always be young.

While working in the desert sun
it's you I'm thinking of.
I'm trying hard to figure out
what to do with all this love
I'm feeling.

When I get home I'll make you marry me.
Restart my life with my new family.

Watching the sand shift in the desert
makes me remember ancient dreams.
And it's strange to see how I'm getting older
when my heart still believes
I'll always be young.

I'll always be young...
I'll always be young...

Setting Out

I'm finally on my way,
taking it to the waves,
getting back my sea legs.
I'm setting out.
See how the sea
shines so bright in the morning
I'll never give up again
until I'm done

I'm so tired of being me
holding on to severed ties reminds me how I make myself so lonely.

Seasons

I'm fairly sure that you were born with fire in your blood,
judging by the way you never let up.
Though we see in a different shade, I admire what you've made
of your soul and how you want to change the world.

Girl, you're messing with my seasons
the way you give me a reason
to smile through
this especially cold winter
I have barely felt since
I first met you.

When I look into your eyes I see a better world
and something there I wish it would live for.
As I turn my life to leave I long to hear your voice
say to me so soft and so sweetly:

There's enough heaven here for us;
there's no need to wait it out.

snippets

It's strange to see that I'm getting older when
my heart still believes
I'll always be young

I watched the wolves stalk through the woods:
my woods,
my wolves,
my goddamn feral blood.

Smooth Arrow

Hey Mr. Man
standing in my window
calling out to your savior,
I don't believe
a word you said was ever true
but I still believe in you.

Hey there Kingly Soul
crying into the wind
trying so hard to be saved,
you're smooth as an arrow
with a head of sharpened stone.
At least you didn't die alone.

"Oh, my dear brother..."
Six shots won't bring him back.
Whoa whoa-oh whoa-oh-oh.
In your final breath you fell
from the window to the well
where blood flowed from your wounds.

Hey Mr. Man
standing in my window
calling out to your savior,
I don't believe
a word you said was ever true
but I still believe in you.

I still believe in you.

Mr. Freeze (??????)

Where do I go from here?
I can't live on the mountaintop
isolated in an icy shell
insulated in the snow.
Where do I go,
where do I go from here?

Roads run like capillaries
out of and into coagulant veins.

Blood from my heart stains
the white world I've tried to make.

Take me back to the wind!
It left me here alone.

In the church there is a window
that changes light
from white into a rainbow scenery.

I never finished this song, and I no longer think I will. I've stopped caring about it.

I'm fairly sure that you were born with fire in your blood, judging by the way you never let up. Though we see in a different shade, I admire what you've made of your soul and how you want to change the world.

Girl, you're messing with my seasons
the way you give me a reason
to smile through
this especially cold winter
I have barely felt since
I first met you.

There's enough
heaven here for us.
There's no need to wait it out.

Starshine

This is a forced lyric I wrote yesterday for a friend and his girl. It's entirely recycled. I'm not sure there's an original bone left in me.

D:I can watch you move through the dark
and know exactly who you are.

A:Take me in your arms
and learn my heart by feeling.

Take my hand and walk with me
past the hills and through the trees
to where we'll rest and wait to see
the morning come
in with the sun.
And when we're finally through the night
you'll see me in the morning light
and know that what we felt was right.
The morning comes
in with sun.

A:You should know everything will be just fine
by the way you make me glow like stars shine.

D:You know what I am:
A better man than them.

Chemical Agency

Something I started working on today. Just getting some ideas down mostly.

Go on take your pills
and then you will feel alright, alright alright.
You'll sleep half the day
and so calm through the night.
You know what you've got,
you've got your chemical agency.

If you're hopelessly tired
over anxious or wired.
Don't forget that you've got
your chemical agency.

When you're drunk off your ass
or toke up just to relax.
Don't you forget
you used your chemical agency.

When the voices are saying
you'd best be a-slaying.
When you've got your father's throat in your grip
and you just want to rip it out.
Don't you forget
you've got your chemical agency.

Just take your pills
and we'll all be alright, alright, alright
'cause you'll sleep half the day
and so calm through the night.
What is it you've got?
You've got your chemical agency.

The Bed In The Temple

You are a cultured girl,
a pretty little cultured pearl.
Just barely still a child,
you've never known the wild world.

When a consecrated finger
dug inside your shell
to show you to your new life
it must have felt like Hell.

Did he lay you in a bed of roses
and part your hidden self like Moses?
Are you older yet?
Do you feel saved?

What is it that you yearn for? Have you made it there? Have you learned a thing from giving mind and soul to the prophet of men who sold to you the ball and chain you wear?

Did he lay you in a bed of roses
and spread your hidden self like Moses?
Are you older yet?
Do you feel saved?
He takes the rod and breaks the stone.
Instead of water blood will flow.
In rapture now he cracks the tomb
with holy seed to sow your womb.
Are you older yet?
Do you feel saved?
